About Queer Prom MT
Queer Prom MT empowers queer youth by fostering vibrant community events where joy, creativity, and inclusivity flourish. We celebrate diversity, provide safe spaces for queer youth self-expression and strive to help every youth person feel valued and connected. We organize and host large annual queer and allied youth events (free) and smaller monthly events throughout the Missoula and Western Montana communities. We also host an annual adult Queer Prom to provide revenue to fund year-round youth activities.
In 2025, we welcomed more than 400 adults and 300 teens—queer and allied—to our annual Queer Proms, held April 25 & 26 at the Missoula County Fairgrounds. This year, we also introduced our first Family-Friendly Dance Party, bringing together over 75 adults and children to enjoy live music and dancing.
At every event, attendees experienced a safe and joyful space to express themselves freely and authentically.
Beyond our epic prom events, teens have enjoyed our monthly Café Queer, where they enjoy coffee and conversation at local coffee shops. They’ve also joined in larger events and collaborations with LGBTQ+ friendly businesses that have provided safe spaces for pumpkin carving, bowling, a murder mystery party, a Bob Ross paint along, an outdoor movie night, pride parade float building, a roller derby skate, and more!
It all started with one brave, cool, queer kid... who started a Gender Sexuality Alliance (GSA) in a rural, conservative community. They wanted to create a space for themselves and their peers to express their identities safely, and with joy. Some folks weren’t ready for that, but we were. Our community rose up with love to create Queer Prom MT.
And now here we are, with more than 800 annual participants, and dozens of volunteers and sponsors. We host annual Queer Prom events for hundreds, and with the revenue from adult events and community sponsors, provide our annual teen prom and monthly events free to all queer and allied youth.
It’s amazing what love can do.
